News and FAQ’s

People ask us all the time if we photograph DNA..

So, for the record.... No, we don’t. We picked DNA as a name for us as it is reflective of our  theme of  “Images as Unique as You”.   For just as a persons DNA defines them, our photographs are highly individualized. Many photo studios have a “Signature Look” or a burgeoning consistency to the images the produce. As you look over our images, you will notice that they are quite different from each other. This is because we believe that your “look” in photographs should be as different as one snowflake to another, or as different as your DNA is from someone else's.

However; if you want actual photographs of your DNA (or fingerprints) you can click HERE and go to DNA11.com & they do this quite nicely!

Film or Digital?

We shoot hi-resolution digital images, but can provide film services if you really need ‘em, Can’t imagine why, though. We generally shoot at 36.9 MegaPixels which is roughly equivalent to 220 film (6x6 cm) and is quite adequate for images up to wallpaper size.

Brand of Camera?

We chose Nikon several years ago for our choice in lenses, features and Image quality. We shoot with a Nikon D800’s as our primary “beast of burden”.  For all the Canon folks out there... I’m not trying to start a war. Canon makes superb cameras, as does Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Leica, Hasselblad (our choice for film), & Pentax just to name a few. Pick what you like and can afford. “Rick’s Rule” is that there is always something out there that is sharper, better, faster, etc...... you can spend your time chasing the new best thing, or you can master the art. If the technology is adequate for your needs, it doesn’t matter what else is “out there” .

Mac or PC?

Ok, at the risk of creating additional ill will, I will say that we used PC’s for number of years, and for the most part they worked well. We switched to Macs 5 years ago and I doubt I’ll ever consider going back. It’s all about uptime. For those wanting to know more, just ask me in person, ok?
